Why the pounds don't match
A paper's pound weight is what 500 sheets weigh at that type's own uncut size, and each type uses a different size. That's how 80 lb text ends up thinner than 65 lb cover. Grams per square meter (gsm) is the same scale for everything, so it's the fair way to compare.
Points (pt) measure thickness, not weight, so they can't be converted exactly.
