Gator board
A foam board with hard wood-fiber faces instead of paper, much tougher against dents and moisture.
Gator board looks like foam board from the side, but the faces are a hard resin-soaked wood fiber instead of paper. Press a thumb on it and nothing happens.
It costs more than foam board, and it earns that on signs that get handled: trade show signs that pack in a case, menu boards that get moved every day, signs that lean against walls.
It also handles damp air far better, so it is the foam board we will put outside for a short-term sign. For anything outdoors long term, PVC or corrugated plastic is a better pick.
